3 Star Reactive Dog Friendly

3 Star Reactive Dog Rated

Norton House is a 3 star Reactive Friendly Pack Holidays cottage.  Here are the reasons why, but also more importantly, what aspects of the cottage may not be suitable for your reactive.   Norton House is situated in a very quiet area, in the Norfolk Fens.  Our lovely owner has a reactive dog and absolutely understands the pressure points faced. Fences are all secure and all 6 feet high and the garden is not overlooked due to the height.  The garden is accessed directly from the kitchen patio doors and front door and dogs can be seen /supervised directly at all times due to the wrap around nature of the garden.  There is plenty of room in this quarter of an acre garden and your view of the fields to the rear are not impeded due to the mesh fencing.   The fields at the rear are currenty arable but there may at times be sheep on the field (we can notify you if this is the case).  There are a number of quiet and reactive friendly walks nearby and clearly signposted bridle path routes. Whilst there is farmland nearby we have had no evidence of bird scarers in the past few years.  There is no well-travelled/coastal route going past the house and it is very peaceful.  Further details of the walks and local area are contained in the Guest Login

From Peterborough, take the A47 towards Wisbech, then head onto the A1101 at Elm High Road. Continue on the A1101 for 3 miles then turn left onto Stow Road then left onto Middle Drove. Norton House is a 5 min drive and is the white semi-detached cottage on the right hand side of the roadOrIf you are approaching on Middle Drove from the South eg from Downham Market, Wisbech, Outwell then once you turn onto the road you will follow a straight narrow road for around 0.3 miles before there is a sharp bend to the right in the road with a house on the corner, once you have passed here it is a straight road for 1.3 miles until you reach the property. We are the last property before you reach the water, if you reach the traffic lights at the bridge then you have gone too far, turn around then you will see the properties directly behind you.OrIf you are approaching Middle Drove from the North eg from Kings Lynn then once you turn onto the road you will follow it for 0.5 miles before the road turns a sharp left, follow that round and continue straight for another 1.0 miles before you reach a junction with School Road. Turn right and then immediately left onto Middle Drove and continue straight for another 1.2 miles. You will reach a set of traffic lights over a bridge, cross over the bridge and the property is the building immediately on your left – we are the house with the 6 foot fence around.

Description

Norton House, set in the gorgeous Norfolk Fens, is a beautifully refurbished cottage, sleeping 6 people and welcoming up to 4 dogs (more by arrangement).  Our lovely owner is a multi dog owner and knows just how important it is to feel welcomed as a dog owner. This beautiful cottage is perfect for peace, tranquility, long walks and is especially fabulous for reactive dogs.  Our lovely owner has spent a great deal of time and effort in ensuring that the fencing surrounding the 0.25 acre garden is 6 feet high, whilst not detracting from the fabulous view over the fields to the rear of the cottage. The cottage is 100 yards away from public footpaths with miles of walks along open countryside and waterways.  If you fancy a bit of fishing, there are fishing platforms just a 30 second walk away from the cottage. Kings Lynn, Downham Market, Ely and Wisbech are a short drive away and if you fancy a day out, Sandringham Estate, Castle Rising, Castle Acre, Norfolk Lavender and RSPB Snettisham are fabulous places to visit.  Do drive up to the west Norfolk coast to take advantage of those gorgeous beaches with are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty

  1. Pooja

We’ve just returned from the most amazing 4 days at Norton house with our 4 dogs to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday. The house is so lovely, the extra touches for the dogs and welcome gifts only added to a great 4 days. The garden is huge and completely secure. As a family with 4 dogs with different reactivities this place was perfect for us. The girls could enjoy themselves and we didn’t have to worry about checking for any potential escape routes. The views were just stunning and seeing the sheep and newborn lambs across the fields was so lovely. The walks from the doorstep were perfect, they went on for miles along the river and we didn’t see a single soul over the 4 days. Gail was so helpful with helping us decide which property would best suit us and made the booking process seamless. We’ve had a great first holiday with Pack Holidays and already can’t wait to book our next trip. Thank you Gail and Pack Holidays for a memorable holiday.

  2. Victoria – August 18th 2023

Lovely house with nice big safe garden for the dog’s (2 German shepherds and 4 miniature dachshund’s). Lovely peaceful area but still not far to the shop’s. The walks from the house was lovely for one of my reactive german shepherds who barks at fresh air! We didn’t see anyone at all on any of the walks. We spent most of the time sat at the table outside reading, playing board games and ate most meals outside too. The sheep in the field was lovely as well and the dog’s soon got used to them been there. The holiday was definitely a hit with the dog’s and we all had a lovely relaxing week.
    Would definitely come again.

    Would visit again

  5. Jill and the Houndies

Just back from a 9 day break at Norton House. Normally we Pack Holiday further North near the coast, but when this came on, swapped our booking. The property is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, huge zoomies area outside, totally enclosed & safe, even for the smallest of escapees once the gates are shut and has everything you need. The location is incredible – I could move in and live here tomorrow. The wildlife is incredible, so keep your eyes peeled if you have hunters!! My luxury was the amazing mattress on the king-size bed!!! It is remote, but very safe, and nothing is too far away!! The walks from the doorway along the waterways literally go for miles & miles, and apart from way off in the distance, we never saw another sole. We didn’t really travel too far, as for us it’s all about the hounds and long walks/chaotic romps which were right there on our doorstep and all felt safe despite the remoteness. Added bonus, the WiFi and mobile coverage was excellent which meant the Trackers worked!!! To watch the barn owls every dawn & dusk hunting in the field the other side of the wire fence was a rare treat. We did go to Holkham & Snettisham beaches, both beautiful and did not disappoint. The little town of Downham Market is lovely, with everything you could need, with a beautiful old fashioned Department Store called Reeds, and the market held on Fridays & Saturdays has all you’d expect with lovely local produce, excellent fishmonger and best of all, an awesome pet stall that sold the best selection of natural dog treats. Worzels at Wisbech has a lovely cafe/restaurant, farm shop & garden centre (the garden centre was transformed into their Christmas shop when we visited).

The weather was … Well we’ve had a stay worse, once before, but the hounds never moan about the weather and I have no choice, so layers and wet weather clothing was the order of the day, but once back at Norton House, all dry, snuggly & warm and safe from the elements!! We did see a couple of stunning Norfolk sun rises before the weather turned, but there is something spectacular about Norfolk in the stormy weather!
    Wonderful place & location.
