Reactive Friendly Award Details
Oak Cottage is a 3 star Reactive Friendly Pack Holidays cottage. Here are the reasons why, but also more importantly, what aspects of the cottage may not be suitable for your reactive. Oak Cottage is situated in a very quiet area, on the outskirts of Happisburgh village., The owners have 3 reactive dogs so are very well aware of pressure points.
Fences and hedging are all secure and all more than 6 feet high and the garden is not overlooked due to the height. The garden is accessed directly from the dining area doors (two exits) and dogs can be seen /supervised directly from this room, the living room and two upstairs bedrooms. There are a number of quiet walks nearby and clearly signposted bridle path routes, some of which avoid the village and route throughout the countryside.
Whilst there is farmland nearby we have had no evidence of bird scarers in the past few years. There is no well-travelled/coastal route going past the house and it is very peaceful.
Location & Directions
Oak Cottage, Short Lane, Happisburgh, NR12 0RR
From the A149 Stalham bypass take the turning signposted Happisburgh/Walcott/Bacton at the western end of the town (Stepping Stone Lane B1159). At the end of the lane, turn left at the junction and stay on the road (still the B1159) for approximately 2 miles. As you approach East Ruston Church (the church on your right hand side of the road on top of the brow of the road), take the immediate right turning into Vicarage Road (signposted The Vicarage Gardens). Follow the road for approximately 1.5 miles as it becomes Happisburgh Road. At the T junction, turn left, then left again into Short Lane.
Follow the lane as it bends to the right, and directly after the bend, Oak Cottage is on your right hand side.
We’ve had a great few days, the cottage is lovely and we really appreciated the welcome basket and thoughtful touches.
We’ve enjoyed exploring the local beaches and a boat ride on the Broads. Lots of the local pubs and cafes have already been mentioned but we have found ‘Sugar and Spice’ on the Coast Road at Bacton to be very welcoming, very dog friendly and lovely homemade food. Looks nothing from outside but don’t let that put you off.
Thank you for a lovely week.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in this cottage and soooooooo dog friendly too!
It’s never easy finding a place to stay with our three chocolate labradors.
The cottage is lovely and the garden is ”pawfect” and secure.
A very BIG thank you – we will be using Pack Holidays again 🙂 !!

Oh WOW! Love the house, first impressions were ‘I wish this was my house’. You really have thought of everything. Everything is really cosy and comfy, we really relaxed while we were here. The dogs couldn’t be more catered for. Good sized, secure and safe garden. We will definitely rebook and already recommended to friends! PS Best welcome pack EVER!
What a stunning little place, first impressions left us lost for words!! A real home from home and everything really has been thought about, down to the fine decorative detail. A true retreat for the dogs, comfy beds and a superb secure garden, that they absolutely loved! Lovely base to get out and explore with beaches only a few moments drive away, closest being Cart Gap just down the road.
We’ve had a wonderful short break and really didn’t want to leave, already planning on when to return, hopefully next time will be longer. Thank you Frazer and Francesca for providing a truly wonderful place. Thank you again Gail and her team! (Back in October for our 6th Pack Holiday!!!) xx
