Reactive Dog Guide
The Milking Parlour is situated in a very quiet lane in a VERY rural location with little or no passing traffic. The garden is all at the front (part patio/gravel and part grassed) and has 6 foot hedging facing the cottage, 7 foot solid gate separating the cottage from the owners property and on the third side, fencing and paddock gate/small gate. Small dogs may be able to get through the gaps in the paddock gate but once the garden gate is closed the garden is fully secured for most sized dogs. The cottage is surrounded by farmland. To date, we have had no reports of bird scarers but we will keep an eye on this! 3 dogs welcome and more by prior arrangement.

A few days of beautiful weather and we have really appreciated this last minute break and our first stay at The Milk Parlour. Poppy has loved the walks and the chance to spend alot of time off lead on Weavers Way including a half hearted attempt chasing a non-Muntjac deer. Definitely recommend this cottage for a chance to enjoy a lovely rural area
Paul and Mira –
We had a fantastic time at The Milk Parlour these past few days. Lovely to meet Jane and John
Thank you so much for the fresh warm baked bread and butter and milk and lovely cake and biscuits and doggie biscuits. Been to Bacton, Cart Gap, Happisburgh beach, Weather was gorgeous 29 degrees red hot and sunny but a lovely sea breeze on the beaches ! Moving onto another Pack Holiday at Heron Cottage for 3 days now. Beautiful garden, mostly in the garden day and night watching the stars. our dogs Tiggy Wiggy labradoodle and Billy Bob collie loved it on the beaches (first time for Billy – rescue collie)
Gary Dawn and Laura –
We have enjoyed a wonderful week at the Milk Parlour with sunshine every day
We have been able to relax, knowing that the garden is so secure for our small dogs
Thank you for the lovely warm welcome of home made bread and goodies. We have visited many beaches, enjoyed sunsets at Cromer, a wonderful trip on the Norfolk Broads from Wroxham.
Another highlight has been the nature surrounding us. Throughout the week we have seen 22 deer, 2 badgers and 6 hares. Not to forget a number of Kites flying above. We hope to revisit next year
Thanks again

Thank you for another great stay at Heath Farm. Wilfreds last year and The Milk Parlour this year. Wonderful stays both times. Thank you for the milk, bread, biscuits and butter on arrival and also fresh bread at the start of our second week two! Also thank you for the new insect zapper. We have found both of your places really comfortable, well equipped and just very soothing places to be, including Janes beautiful art to enjoy.
We are going home well rested and very relaxed for sure. We really appreciate such a dog friendly and dog secure place too. Rosa loves sniffing all the hedgerows and undergrowth, she hasnt left a leaf unturned.
This year we have particularly enjoyed Ross’ Wildlife Boat Tour from Martham Broad.. We went on the first sailing 9.45am and saw so much, crested grebes and their babies, coots, Marsh Harriers, Heron, Egret, Swallowtail butterflies, fabulous £11 per adult. Barton Broad walk, just lovely
Walking to see St Benets Abbey from Ludham Bridge, swimming in the sea at Sea Palling
But most of all just chilling in this lovely place.
Many thanks again, we hope to be back
Pat, Kathleen, Toffee, Bebe and Daphne –
We have had a peaceful and relaxing week. The cottage is very comfortable, the large outside umbrella was great shelter from the sun on the first couple of days as they were quite hot. Thank you for the lovely warm newly cooked bread. It was lovely. We enjoyed local walks and also beach walks. Also used Martham Paw Grounds field which were excellent for our dogs. Thank you

Highly recommend The Crab Pot Cafe in Cromer for a great crab salad. Wonderful friendly people throughout our stay
We have had a relaxing week to boot
Hope to come back again, and will recommend to friend and family
Thank you Jane and John for all your help
Denise McMahon –
My friend, myself and our 4 German Shepherds had a really lovely three days at the Milking Parlour, everything we and our dogs could possibly need was provided, so thoughtful. We were made so welcome by Jane and John and couldn’t have asked for a better location. The only drawback was the weather which was not kind, but nevertheless, we had a lovely time, finishing on our last day at Cart gap and a run on the beach for the dogs. Can’t wait to go back again.
Claire and Andy and Hattie, Jester and Woody –
Yet another lovely relaxing holiday for us. You will be pleased that the garden is totally ‘Woody proofed’. We could have done a bit more sun and less rain but this did not spoil the peacefulness of the holiday
Many thanks for your help and time and we look forward to visiting again
Maureen and Doug, Finn and Doug –
Lovely few days meeting up with friends. Nice walks, beaches and meals out. Cafe Carmel at Bacton does amazing garlic mushrooms. Wayford Bridge Inn for good meals.

Amazing wildflowers
Thank you

The Milking Parlour was a beautiful place to stay for our family holiday (2 adults and 2 children and 2 dogs)
There are lots of quiet walks that we all enjoyed and were perfect for our anxious daschund
We went to Sea Palling beach and had the most wonderful walks and it was very quiet
We all enjoyed an ice cream (even the dogs)
This was our first trip to Norfolk but it wont be our last and we hope to stay at the Milking Parlour again soon

Well, what can we say about our stay at ‘The Milking Parlour’ Honing?…
“When are we coming back?!”
The Cottage was beautiful, perfect amount of room for 3 hoomans (2x adults 1x 6yr) and 2 dogs, 2 & 11. It was well equipped, clean and tidy.
It was situated down a quiet country lane, with no through traffic, parking directly behind the cottage.
Entry via the gate, into a small but adequate sized secure garden, with a mix of pebbles, patio, grass, slate and borders, lots of things to sniff.
In through the front door, toilet and large walk in shower (which was lovely and warm!), a storage cupboard to hang coats to the left, then the open kitchen, diner, lounge which had 2x double sofas…and there on the table were some handmade choc-orange cookies & lemon drizzle cake, I’m not sure who was most excited, my husband or my son! Fresh milk and butter in the fridge, tea and coffee plus of course some doggy biscuits.
Next we came to a nice sized twin bedroom perfect for a 6yr old boy to make his own, then finally the main bedroom next door with a king sized bed and a small sofa at the end.
We settled in straight away, it felt like home from home. Very little traffic drove past, mostly all that you could hear were the birds, including owls & woodpeckers. There were also muntjac deer in the fields opposite, wonderful to see.
The only real noise was that of the helicopters and planes, including two US F-15 fighter jets doing loops, which we were tracking on an app, quite exciting.
Adventures:
We went to Horsey Beach, which was quite busy due to everyone coming to see the seals & their pups, what a sight indeed, we had never seen so many in one place. The dogs were very well behaved for the most part ( we have one fear reactive cockerpoo 2yrs old, who has recently come off anxiety meds and training with a 5* behaviourist and a grumpy, not dog friendly, Cavapoo x Spanish Water Dog) they coped impeccably!
We did Weavers Way walk, through the muddy puddles, somehow taking a wrong turn, but making it back just before the rain!
Waxham Beach, where we had the most wonderful walk, several people and dogs but no issues.
Wroxham Barns, the dogs came in and out the car for several leg stretches / wees after their beach walk, whilst in between we visited the junior farm! We saw the calfs who tried to suckle our hands, we saw the pigs, fed the sheep, goats and alpacas, rabbits and guineapigs and got to stroke the rabbits, my son even practiced milking a (pretend) cow. What is not to love?! We had a lovely lunch here too, highly recommend if you have kids who love animals, or if you’re like me and just love animals!
Blickling Estate, National Trust.
We are NT members so this didn’t cost us anything other than a few drinks in the cafe. The dogs can walk around the surrounding estate, we opted for a 1.9 mile walk around the lake, the dogs loved it. We then popped the dogs in the car for an hour whilst we explored the gardens. We moved a bee to safety on a daffodil, played the mushrooms ( metal drums) and had a lovely walk.
Takeaway – we had the very best fish and chips from ‘Three cottages fish restaurant’ in North Worsham, opposite Sainsbury’s, they were delicious, we ordered & paid online and collected, they were on time and still hot when we got them back.
Our only slight negative, which has no reflection on the property, location etc was the lorries which were flying up and down on the last evening / morning collecting the sugar beets. This can’t be helped and we totally support our British farmers, it was just the speed they went on a narrow single track road that was of concern, however it didn’t last more than an hour the two days.
Finally, we loved our holiday so very much, we will look to book here again as there is so much to see and do, we loved ever minute of it!

Thanks so much Jane and John. We have had a wonderful week at The Milk Parlour. Super welcoming and friendly and perfect walks right outside the gate
Sunny the Staffy loved her holiday and playing in all the fields (she was a tab scared of the noise from the military planes). Thanks again for a fabulous relaxing week
Sophie and Laurence –
The Milking Parlour provided an ideal base for exploring North Norfolk. Peaceful, comfortable and with instant access to early morning exercise in the countryside, much appreciated by a golden retriever (Willow) who is used to the city. Felbrigg Hall particularly the walled garden, was a marvel – no dogs but we took it in turns, And the house!!! Full of interest. Beautiful walking in Sheringham Park, remarkable coastal landscapes at Holkham, The small town of Holt a delight. Thank you for the thoughtful goodies which greeted us on arrival. A brilliant break for us all
Tina, Andrew and Eddy –
After a very wet start to our weekend, we were blessed with some lovely sunny weather
We even managed to sit out in the garden to have lunch on the Sunday
Eddy (our greyhound) loved walking along Weavers Way as did we, was lovely to have such nearby walks
Thank you for the welcome goodies
Clare and Jason, Isla Zara and Quinn the labs xx –
After a lovely stay at Wilfreds Farm last year as a bigger group, we’ve had a lovely short break at The Milking Parlour
Cart Gap beach and Smallsticks Cafe were great outings with the dogs (we were lucky as I forgot to check the tides and cafe opening hours but it all worked out!)
Plenty of walks from the barn for all and a lovely place to return for a snooze!
Thanks for the welcome pack and hope to see you again soon

Walks along Weavers Way were wonderfully quiet
Butchers Arms great for takeaway dinners
Andy, Lynn, Buddy, Tia and Oscar –
We have had the most peaceful and relaxing holiday in a long time.
It is so quiet apart from the owls and deer at night – love it!
The doggies have loved the garden and slept very well (such an exciting holiday for them)
Thank you so so much
Sue, Helen, Bella, Fearn, Spice –
We have just returned from a lovely week in this cottage. It is clean, well equipped and comfortable. The walks from the door are wonderful and our dogs had a great time chasing around the Weavers way and other bridle paths. Our smallest dog fell in love with the large dog bed provided by the owners. Jane and John – thank you for allowing us to stay in your cottage and for the help you gave us.
Grace and Jimmy –
Lovely week away – Great weather, the cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped. Garden is so dog friendly and the patio is great for breakfast and dinner. Lovely shower too
Loved the welcome pack
Thank you Jane, John and Gail
Very rested, dogs worn out
Kerry, Bev and our pack of 4 dogs –
The Milking Parlour is a great place, such a quiet environment (apart from helicopters and military places all of which we knew about and kept rushing out to see!!) We visited Honing Railway station, went as far north as Overstrand and Cromer then as far south as Winterton and sat and just watched the sea for hours..
We go back rested, our 4 dogs are well walked and exhausted.
Thank you Jane for your guide to the walks in the area, we did manage a short visit to Weavers Way and do intend to come back to Norfolk and walk other parts.
Really thrilled to find Anne Cleeves books and read them
Jo, Kev, Olaff, Ninja and Primrose –
We have enjoyed every minute of our stay here – it is so quiet and good for the soul. The bread, milk, cookies and cake were much appreciated. This was our first trip to Norfolk and what a gorgeous place!! With our 3 Galgos, we went to Bacton Woods, Walcott, Happisburgh, Holkham, Mundesley and Sheringham Park. Holkham – I think this was our favourite beach. Recommend the red route at Sheringham Park a nice cafe too. Holkham Bay has a lovely look-out cafe and beautiful deer in the Hall grounds. Porthole cafe in Mundesley, The Ship Inn in Mundesley, Hill House Inn at Happisburgh (pub) are all dog friendly.
So much more we didn’t see, so will be back!! Thank you so much, Jane and Gail, especially when we needed an extra night!!
Andy and Claire, Hattie, Jester and Woody –
The Milking Parlour disproves the saying that ‘if its too good to be true, it probably is’
This property and area is everything we wished for and have had a wonderfully relaxing week. Cant wait to return!
Delrae –
Just back from a fabulous holiday in the Milking Parlour, Honing.
This property is so comfortable we could have stayed forever. The weather was fantastic & the garden is a proper sun trap.
We walked Weaver’s Way at last.once a day which is just a couple of hundred yards from the property & meet some really nice people & dogs along the way.
We visited Bacton, Horsey, Happisburgh & Wroxham.
Can highly recommend The Ship Inn at Munderley overlooking the sea, wonderful food & staff. Our dogs were made most welcome & for once our older boy was very well behaved & didn’t feel the need to have a chat with everyone.
Many thanks to Jane for making us so welcome, I enjoyed our chats covering a range of subjects & also many thanks as always to Gail for organising the whole holiday.
Bronwyn –
We had a lovely Easter break at The Milking Parlour. It’s incredibly peaceful, with so many walks and runs directly from the cottage and lots to see within 10 minutes’ drive. The garden was a great size for us and the dogs and very secure. We can’t recommend it highly enough
David, Sarah, Kathy –
Had a lovely week at the Milk Parlour, lovely place to visit. The natural surround garden is beautiful. Thank you Jane, for the daisies.
Lovely wildlife, deer, Barn Owl, squirrels and even a crow that taps on the window!
Val, Nick, Archie & Honey –
A lovely week in a beautiful cottage enjoying the delights of the Norfolk coast. The week has been just what the doctor ordered and we feel relaxed and refreshed.
We felt very welcomed and were able to make ourselves very at home. The dogs loved the great walks nearby and had a whale of a time running free on the wide sandy beaches.
The garden is beautiful ad great to sit in with a glass of wine.
Thank you for a lovely stay. We would be happy to return one day!
Love from Mick, Glad, Maddy and Bracken –
Had a great few days at The Milk Parlour. Sorry it wasn’t a week but at least we had Maddy sorted with her treatments. Than you for te welcome pack. We loved the cake.
It’s a lovely cottage and lovely enclosed garden for our Shelties.
We hope to be back next year, lovely to meet Jane and John and their son
Sarah and Marco –
We had a lovely time and will be back! Beautiful cottage and garden and we felt very welcome. We had a lovely full English breakfast at Vera’s, really good fish and chips at The Kingfisher Cafe (best fish I’ve had in ages) and afternoon tea on the terrace at The Sea Marge Hotel. Local walks and Bacton Woods were great and we had a scamper on the beach at Overstrand. We never quite worked out how to do a longer river walk at Wroxham but had a good potter around.
Lisa, Terry, Irene and Ria –
Just simply lovely, can’t think of any negatives, just all positives. Great location for exploring all the great places Norfolk has to offer, Beautiful walks on the beach being watched by the seals. to quiet relaxing walks on Weavers Way just one minute away. Lovely to sit in the garden watching the busy bumble bees too. Made to feel very welcome by Jane, and the welcome pack was much appreciated. (We had to go and buy more of both the cookies and cakes!) First time visiting Norfolk, but hopefully not the last!!
Jacqui, John, Macey and Bella –
Fantastic cottage, the cleanest one we have rented, ever. Thank you for your friendly welcome and the bread, jam and biscuits they were lovely
Lynn, Ben, Obi and Erso –
A fabulous week away in a gorgeous cottage. The extreme heat did stop some of our wandering however Bacton Woods was lovely and provided lots of shade for the dogs. Beach trips to Wells, Happisburgh and Bacton were hits with the pooches too. Lots of time spent chilling in the garden, the umbrella was used alot. Lovely quiet cottage for 2 noise reactive dogs, although the deer barking totally confused them. Thanks for a lovely friendly welcome especially the delicious bread, cake, cookes. Hope to be back
George and Daisy and 2 hoomans –
A much needed break away from it all and made all the better with lovely weather. A few beach walks but really very happy pottering around the excellent footpaths around Honing. Mostly nice and shady for the dogs. Five Star Cottage and Five Star Hosts. Thank you Jane, John and Gail
