Primrose Cottage, Winterton On Sea
Primrose Cottage is situated in the lovely village of Winterton-on-Sea. It is famous for its miles and miles (and miles) of sandy , glorious beaches and dunes, which are all wonderfully dog friendly. The picturesque village of Horsey is just a few miles away via a coastal path walk and that’s where all the beautiful seal colonies congregate, especially in the winter and in more recent years, the colony is spreading along the Winterton beach and dunes too.
Primrose Cottage is a very short walk to the beach, and the village itself has a number of things to do. There is also a really lovely dog friendly pub nearby (The Fishermans Return), a fabulous fish and chip shop, Post Office, village shop and miles of wonderful beach and dunes to explore.
Primrose Cottage is a semi-detached cottage with private parking and is situated in a very quiet residential street.

Reactive Dog Guide
Primrose Cottage is a 2 star Reactive Friendly Pack Holidays cottage. Here are the reasons why, but also more importantly, what aspects of the cottage may not be suitable for your reactive.Primrose Cottage is situated in a slightly quieter area of Winterton village (and not directly in the centre of the village). It is in a residential street so there is more activity than in a very rural location,The garden is secure with 5-6 feet high fencing on either side of the garden (there are neighbours on both sides. There is a 4 feet gate to enter the garden directly from the private car parking space. The front of the house has an alley way used by Snowdrop and Primrose for access (and bin storage). The garden is accessed via the conservatory patio doors and dogs can be seen clearly/supervised from the conservatory and living room.Whilst there are neighbours on either side, the height of the fencing at Primrose means that being overlooked is limited and people could only be seen if they chose to pop a head ‘over the fence’.It is a 5 min walk out of Chapel Road and to the right to access the dunes. This is by far the quietest way to access the beach, but you can choose to go via the centre of the village if you choose. As it is in the village we have had no reports of bird scarers being heard in the village, but as there are other residents locally you may hear other residents dogs barking on occasion.Parking is in a private space to the rear of the property with access directly through the cottage courtyard gate and to the front door. The parking area is open so please be aware of this when exiting the car with dogs. The dogs are secure as soon as the garden gate is closed.
Accessibility guide
Primrose Cottage has both bedrooms upstairs, and cloakroom and bathroom downstairs. The stairs are a little steep and have a handrail. Please let me know if you have any mobility issues

Primrose Cottage is absolutely perfect! We have loved every second of our holiday and we cannot wait to return. It is perfect for both dogs and their humons. Spotlessly clean with beautiful interior. Thank you so much
Great location for the dunes, the secret lane walks and the beach! Mum is an avid walker and has been in element. Having everything on our doorstep (including the village shop, the pub and the chip shop) has been really lovely and very convenient. We are all in agreement that we love Primrose and we love Winterton!
Maggie Falconer –

We really loved the cottage – Had everything we need. So close to the beach and walks and not far from Horsey Wind Pump, had a trip to Sheringham and Lowestoft.
Thank you for the yummy dog biscuits and mllk and human biscuits, The dogs loved them
Zoe –
We absolutely loved our stay at Primrose Cottage this year. We love the close access to the dunes for walking the dogs. The weather has been so good I even had a swim in the sea. We have had excellent meals at the Fishermans Return and local chip shop. I cycled down the dunes to Horsey Gap on a cooler day. Thank you we had a brilliant time
Sharon, Rob, Rufus and Belle –
Primrose Cottage was our first Pack Holiday and we all loved it It was lovely that the dogs have the run of the house removes all human stress. We felt Primrose was dog welcoming and not dog tolerant
Location is great, the cottage was clean and tidy – It was everything for a relaxing holiday
Primrose has the addition of being close to the dunes which we used daily to the pleasure of Rufus and Belle
Would highly recommend Primrose and Pack Holidays

Such a lovely cottage, well equipped, warm and comfortable! Despite the weather, we have really enjoyed our stay. Rosie has also had a great time on the beach and dunes. Excellent walks. Burgh Castle was a nice change to the beach. We have slept brilliantly, such a comfy bed. Thanks for the welcome pack and home from home touches. Clean, cosy, comfortable, just lovely

We have just had a holiday in Primrose cottage at the start of May.
The cottage was really clean and a lovely space downstairs with everything we could need. The sofas were big and comfortable with lots of space.
The bedrooms upstairs were again a nice size and very comfortable. No upstairs bathroom which was a bit of an issue for us but most people would be okay once the steep staircase was mastered although older dogs may struggle.
The garden was a nice size and the parking at the back of the house came in very handy as parking wasn’t always easy for others visiting us. A patch of grass in the garden would have been useful for the dogs rather than using the muddy borders.
The dunes and beach were a short walk away through the convenient short cut supplied in the details which we made good use of.
We had lovely lunches at the cafe next to the beach but Poppy’s cafe was definitely a favourite and were able to get a table with friends and 5 dogs inside.
Fish and chips were lovely and the large battered sausage was something to behold. 😉
Gt Yarmouth and Gorleston are not far away if you needed a big supermarket or retail shopping.
We visited Cart gap, Poppyland cafe (WW2 themed), Horsey Windpump, Gorleston beach and Waxham barns cafe. I would also recommend Horsey Gap for seeing the seals.
With all that said, Winterton beach was so lovely, we spent a large amount of time with the dogs on that beach.
Overall, a really lovely cottage that was very clean and well equipped in a lovely area very close to the beach and lots of nice eating places.
Clive and Lisa, Dexter, Zoe and Ario –

Its been perfect, clean, comfortable, dog safe, home from home. We certainly made use of its localtion, getting on to the beach and done the village walk twice.

The house was lovely when I arrived – very clean and tidy. I have had a lovely break although the weather could have been better as it was a bit cold

Yet again, an absolutely fantastic cottage. Perfect for our stay. Could not fault anything. Even the weather was on our side. Lovely breakfast at Poppys, and fantastic lunch at the fisherman’s arms. It’s great just to park up and leave the car. All of our four dogs loved the beach and the dunes. Looking forward to coming back.
Anne and Graham –

Thank you for a wonderful holiday!! Primrose Cottage is a delight and in the most perfect location.
We had wonderful walks on the dunes and the fab beach.
We had some lovely day trips to various broads
Saw sooooo many seals at Horsey – AMAZING!
Winterton has everything – Poppys, The FishermansRest, The Chippie – what more could we need>
Ian climbed the church tower open every Saturday 2-4pm during the Summer
Worth the 144 steps for the incredible view
Primrose Cottage is so VERY comfy – good bed, sofa….etc all VERY important for a restful holiday. LOVELY! Dog Tess enjoyed her treats – thank you!! She loved having two gardens!!
BRILLIANT holiday!! Thank you xxx
Tracie –
As soon as I stepped inside Primrose cottage I knew it was going to be a good week. Such a charming cottage, so tastefully decorated and a calm tranquil feel about the place. Spotlessly clean and welcoming.
I loved the layout, really well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge, generous bathroom and lovely big bedrooms. Even checked the make of the mattress as it was so comfortable. It’s a Simba, btw.
Every Pack holiday property has its plus point (this is my 3rd holiday so far with them this year, 2 more booked) but Primrose is the exception as it’s has lots of them, e.g. within the village but sitting just on the edge, peaceful, just 30 seconds to the dunes, your own parking place, a short walk of 3 minutes to the shop and 4 to the pub.
Gail and her team made sure everything was just so for our arrival, dog crates etc. It’s so nice to know that within minutes of arriving you can be getting on with your holiday.
I’d happily live there so if the owner wants to sell up but I’m first in the queue!
I’m going back again for another holiday but for 2 weeks next time!

Another lovely stay despite the best efforts of the weather to spoil things 🙂
Highlights – Breakfast at Hirsts, Poppyland and Seal View
Ice cream at Mundesley, watching the seals swim at Horsey Gap.
Stocking up on books at the National Trust bookshop at Blickling
And those wonderful deserted beaches!
Malc, Zoe, Kael and Ziggy –
Lovely week in Winterton on Sea, the local pub / beach / cafe / shops are all walking distance from the house
Lovely clean house and so dog friendly
Recommend the Fishermans Return in the village and The Boatman Pub for grub
Pack Holidays are fantastic!! This is our second Pack Holiday and we will be back!

It’s been great going to the beach and swimming in the sea – cold but refreshing! I had alot of fun. One of my favourite memories is going for midnight walks down to the beach. The sky was so clear and we could see the stars, which were beautiful
We have had an amazing family holiday!
JC, Laurie and Hugo –
Another brilliant week at Primrose Cottage (14th to 21st April) in Winterton on Sea. Than you Gail, the owners and the team! We love it here, so close to the beach and the marrams. We were blessed with the weather and are already looking forward to our next trip!
Our find this time for pizza lovers was ”Basecamp” at Clippesby Hall, dogs allowed onto the heated patio area outside. As always the local Fishermans Return so lovely. We walked to Scratby Bakers (low tide) for breakfast. Found Nero’s Kitchen in Happisburgh for Hugo’s dog treats!
Thank you Norfolk, the county that keeps on giving!
Favourite walk of the week – Overstrand to Cromer on the beach
Sharon, Billy Sid and Paddy –
Thank you for a wonderful stay at Primrose Cottage, the place was an ideal place to explore with our young labradors Sid and Paddy on their first holiday! The cottage was ideal and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the lovely welcome pack and so did the boys with their tasty treats. Thank you Gail

A very cosy and well equipped cottage in the perfect location. We’ve had such a relaxing New Years weekend here away from the madness and the fireworks, so happy days! Having the parking space is a great bonus and we think it would be great to have a small double bed in the second bedroom. Thank you for letting us enjoy your cottage – and the woodburner was a lovely added bonus! Really don’t want to go home

Thank you for such a wonderful week! Cottage was perfect, immaculately clean and had everything provided and more. Great access to the beach. We loved seeing seals in the waves! Our furbaby loved his first beach holiday too! Good shops nearby and very central to a lot of locations.

Lots of lovely places to walk with the dogs. The dunes and beach, both north and south, are within walking distance of the house and other places such as Hickling Broad are a short drive away. The local chip shop is brilliant. Best to phone your order through as they cook to order and will give you a collection time. Fishermans Return is open all day, does food and dogs are welcome in all areas of the pub

We stayed at Primrose Cottage in late April. We really enjoyed our week in the cottage. It is very well appointed and the decor is fresh and modern, it was scrupulously clean. We liked the village and close proximity to the beach and local beauty spots and walks. We also enjoyed the quiet location and private outside area which was perfect for relaxing especially as it is south facing so gets the sun all day. We will be recommending the cottage to friends and family and look forward to revisiting it ourselves in the future.
