Poppyland, Winterton on Sea
Poppyland is situated in a quiet and peaceful spot on a private estate, well outside of the hub of Winterton village, it is the perfect place to get away from it all. It is clean, bright and recently modernised with a beach theme throughout.
Detached and all on one level, it has stunning, uninterrupted views of the dunes and the sea. The sea is about 250 metres away with private access to the dunes and beach directly from the fully enclosed garden.
Winterton on Sea is famous for its miles and miles (and miles) of sandy, glorious beaches and dunes, which are all wonderfully dog friendly. The lovely village of Horsey is just a few miles away via a coastal path walk and that’s where all the beautiful seal colonies congregate, especially in the winter.
Poppyland really is a very short walk to the beach and the village itself has a number of things to do. There is also a really lovely dog friendly pub nearby (Fisherman’s Return 20min walk/5min car), a lovely chip shop, Winterton beach café is about 20 minutes along the dunes or beach.
By Car: Easy access to local supermarkets (Co Op 5 mins, Tesco 15 minutes),
Yarmouth 25 minutes, Acle 20 minutes, The Broads 15 minutes, Horsey (Seals) 10 Minutes, Waxham 15 Minutes. Wide range of large Supermarkets and Retail Outlets are available in Great Yarmouth. Medical Facilities in Hemsby and Great Yarmouth. Restaurants, Bars, Arcades and fun for children in Hemsby and Great Yarmouth. Poppylands Café 10 minutes. Vets in Caister 12 minutes. Reactive Dog Guide
Poppylands is in a very quiet location, with little to no passing traffic as it is at the end of a dead end road. There are neighbours on either side but please note that there may also be dogs on either side and I cannot guarantee reactivity of dogs in either property. The garden fencing has recently been upgraded to increase the height. The fencing facing the dunes has been increased to 5.5 feet high, whilst not detracting from the view, it does ensure a high degree of safety. The fencing and hedging on either side of the cottage is secure and the front garden gates (8 feet high), once closed after parking your car in the driveway, are totally secure. Please note that Poppyland situation is a very quiet area with neighbours on both sides. We would respectfully remind guests to be mindful of excessive dog noises in the garden and round the house.

Poppyland is all on one level and is fairly open plan. There is one step into the property and an access route to the garden via he patio doors. Please let me know if you have any mobility issues

Cottage Details:
When you arrive:
Parking for two vehicles on the secure and gated driveway (room for one car outside). Enter via the main side door onto the open plan kitchen/living area.
Open Plan Kitchen and Living Room
There is a small kitchen area as you walk into the side door, this is well equipped with electric oven, touch hob (4 rings), microwave and a small undercounter fridge freezer and a washer/dryer.
Go straight ahead into the main living area where you will find plenty of seating for 5 people, several lovely lamps, a 32-inch Smart TV and a dining table big enough for 5 with stunning uninterrupted views of the sea and dunes. There is a telescope if you fancy looking at the ships and wildlife. There are sliding patio doors to exit onto a small patio and into the garden.
There is a freezer for frozen goods in the dining area next to the patio door (small chest freezer type)
Bedroom 1 Master:
This room has stunning, uninterrupted views across the dunes and to the sea. There is a comfortable standard size double bed, side unit, lamp and a double wardrobe.
Shower Room:
The shower room is to the rear of the bungalow and has a modern grey suite, tiled floor with a large, modern thermostatic shower cubicle. Toilet and Basin.
Bedroom 2:
This room is furnished with twin beds, side unit, bedside lamp and two single wardrobes.
Bedroom 3:
Is furnished with a single bed, side unit, small storage draws, large shelving space, bedside lamp and single wardrobe.
The Garden:
This lovely garden is fenced all the way round. To the front there are 8 feet gates and a wall and fence at a similar height, proving privacy. There are walls and hedges of 6 feet all the way around the garden and a small hedge then a fence and bolted gate on the dunes side of approximately 5.5 feet height. The garden is laid mainly to lawn and there is plenty of seating outside. There is an outside tap for washing dogs’ paws or dog drinking water.
The garden to the front has some seating and a washing line. The garden to the rear has separate seating. There are steps down to the dunes from the back garden but do note they are quite steep.

There are cottages on either side of Poppyland (it is a quiet area with limited noise) we ask that guests be aware of this

The views over the dunes and sea are impressive and it was lovely to see a proper dark sky for once! The summer sunrise is spectacular. We had a great time in Great Yarmouth with our toddler and he rode his first rollercoaster

We have three Spanish rescues and one in particular is severely traumatised by his previous life
He comes alive on the beach and the beach here is always so quiet that they can all have off lead fun
The cottage is super dog friendly we especially love the outside setting and extra sofa this time

We have already booked for our 10th wedding anniversary next summer

We stayed here for a week in May & it was perfect! From arriving into a secure parking spot with 6’ gates (no escaping dogs from the car), the beach out the back gate & the patio doors into the garden so the dogs could wander in & out. It was amazing. We visited loads of places – everwhere seemed to be dog friendly including Norwich Cathedral! We particularly liked Cromer.
The facilities in the cottage were great too. Fridge & freezer, oven & loads of cooking equipment. We tend to eat in as it’s easier with the dogs & cooking wasn’t a problem. We did an online delivery to arrive the evening of arrival from Tesco. Driver found the cottage easily, we did provide the What3Words location just in case but driver knew the area.
Bed was super comfy, plenty pillows etc. Blinds & curtains on the window so nice & dark. Slept great.

We had such a lovely time at poppyland with our #pack. The garden is just the best place to sit and enjoy a cup of tea looking out at the view of the dunes and sea. So peaceful and a truly relaxing break and the dogs loved it. There are lots of good beaches around but being able to just pop across the dunes with the dogs from the garden to a lovely quiet and sandy beach is brilliant. There is a great chinese a couple of minutes drive away and a co-op for supplies.
Ideally situated for lots of days out we had lots of fun exploring the broads, the coast and local history. Thanks to Gail and the team for another excellent experience.

Another lovely week at Poppyland. The location is the main reason we keep coming back with walks directly from the garden to the beach and through the Valley. Wait for low tide and you can enjoy the enormous stretches of sandy beach every day. Super secure garden and ample room for lots of dogs inside too. Lovely views out to sea whilst enjoying breakfast sitting at the picnic table, what’s not to like!
A short drive, 8 mins to the great farm shop and cafe at Hirst’s where we can also indulge ourselves with sea food from Dabs and Crabs.
We are back again in a few weeks time for another stay, our third which says it all. Thank you owner Kate and to Gail and her team for making us so welcome.

Thank you for another lovely holiday here at Poppylands. Both of us and our dogs love it here. Its perfect for our deaf and blind dogs. They love the big garden and we all feel relaxed as soon as we get here. Before we know it its time to go home and we can’t wait for the next holiday to come along. Its our 3rd holiday at Poppylands and the dogs think its their second home. Thank you to Kate for allowing us to use this lovely place we are very grateful. We have had some great walks in the dunes and also onto the beach. We love walking at Winterton. We’ve had a fabulous week at Poppyland and just loved the easy access to the amazing beach.
Poppylands was just perfect for us and our 6 dogs who had a great week too
We enjoyed exploring the area and the circular walk from Winterton to East and West Somerton via the dunes and the Burnley Estate as well as the walk from Horsey Windpump to the beach and back.
The NT parking and cafe there was fabulous too
We also liked the Seal View Cafe near the beach in Winterton on Sea and Hirsts Farm Shop and Dabs and Crabs at Ormesby
The weather was very kind and Poppyland was warm and comfortable and we all went home very relaxed Thank you x

Poppyland has a large enough garden for my 2 dogs. The gate at the bottom of the garden took us straight onto the sand dunes and beach. We walked in both directions – to Hemsby a couple of times, and into Winterton.
The sunrise from the main bedroom was spectacular every morning!

The views are fantastic, access to the beach perfect
Our reactive doggy, Bane was able to have a great time and we didn’t need to worry about him getting getting out.
The cottage has everything we needed and definitely catered to the doggies.
Even though there were other dogs on the beach it wasn’t busy and we could easily avoid them without Bane getting stressed.
Hemsby and Yarmouth were lovely and catered well for our 6 year old
The local takeaways were really nice on the nights we didn’t fancy cooking
The house was very clean on arrival and it was comfortable. I would definitely recommend it to others
I would really like to use Pack Holidays again as it took so much stress out of looking for the perfect place for our Bane

We have had a fabulous week. The bungalow is in the perfect location. Walks from the end of the garden every day. You can walk in either direction on the dunes or the beach.
Hemsby is great for the children and there are so many dog friendly places.
If you walk to Winterton, there are the dog friendly cafes on the beach. (The dogs get sausages!)
We loved it so much we have booked for next year!
