Reactive Dog Guide
Little Bent Cottage is a 3 STAR top rated Reactive Friendly cottage. Here are the reasons why: Little Bent Cottage is situated on a very quiet rural road. On closing the gates, the garden is secure (though if you have jumpers, please note height of fence and walls). There are two secure adjoining dog paddocks with 6 feet high fencing all around. Little Bent Cottage guests have EXCLUSIVE access to both paddocks and there is no livestock currently in the surrounding fields. If your dog is reactive, although we cannot police where the farmer puts his livestock, it is possible to just use one paddock to avoid confrontation. Mostly the ground is used for grass with only very occasional grazing
Accessibility guide
All bedrooms at Little Bent are upstairs. There is one step into the property on entrance. The stairs are wide and not steep. Please let me know if you have any mobility issues

Mena and Karl, Cupid, Gretel and Casper –
Weve had the loveliest of stays – Everything has been thought of for both 2 legged and 4 legged creatures
Casper, Gretel and Cupid made the most of the paddock – especially after the snow, which made our stay extra special and Christmassy!
Would thoroughly recommend Little Bent Cottage and look forward to another stay in 2025
Wendy, Chris, Murphy and Cas –
We’ve had such a wonderful and relaxing time here
The welcoming touches of cake, eggs and doggy treats were lovely
The paddocks were used every day by our labs – Murphy enjoyed the space to have zoomies and our senior boy Cas loved ambling around at his own speed.
We visited many beautiful places Dovedale, Biddulph country park and Rudyard Lake
It truly is doggy heaven and we cant wait to return
Holly Wadeson –
We had the most fabulous stay here and lucked out with the weather as we had crisp, dry days during our stay. From the moment we arrived it felt like ‘home’ for our 3 dogs and little one, who loved crawling around! The shops are just a 5 minute drive away into Leek and you can get takeaways delivered to the cottage as we did on our first night. Pauline is truly the perfect host and the little touches were just amazing, we didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to make it an annual trip for our family x
Jane Swindle –
Had an amazing time at Little Bent Cottage. Totally reactive dog friendly, from the lovely secure space for them to run free, handmade dog biscuits, dog toys, bowls, throws, towels and hot and cold dog wash. We humans were spoilt too with Victoria sponge, handmade biscuits, fresh eggs and milk. The cottage itself exceeded expectations with plenty of space and everyting we needed. Loved the farmhouse style kitchen, cosy lounge and jacuzzi bath. A few minutes drive into Leek and plently of lovely places to visit where dogs are either on leads or there is plenty of space to avoid them..
Pat and Steve and Ted the Border Terrier –
What a lovely cottage with all our needs catered for
A perfect place to recharge the batteries. Just what we needed
The scenery is stunning. Ted loved the paddock and the walks. Thank you
The Willems family –
Thankyou for a wonderful stay, we all had a great time especially the dogs and children. Such a lovely house, everyone was well catered for.
Lovely location with stunning views, with plenty of nearby places to visit. (Loved the little white book, very handy for now and future) We will look forward to visiting again
Christine Anderson –
Thanks to Pauline for her warm hospitality- home-made cake, fresh eggs and doggy biscuits on arrival were a special treat.
The Cottage was beautifully presented with wonderful, comfy beds and all the mod cons. The Goldies loved the safe paddocks and engaged in plenty of sniffing while out there. We were able to reach Leek and Buxton easily and enjoyed great walks in Dippendale and Deep Hayes Country Park in particular. The Lazy Trout was a great dog-friendly place to eat near-by. Really recommend a stay here. Thanks, once again, to Pauline and to Gail for finding this great place.
Christine –
Lovely location, very welcoming with greatly appreciated doggy treats! Cottage is comfortable and cosy, beautifully presented with especially comfortable beds. Doggies loved the paddocks – two energetic Goldies!
We visited Duppendale, Deep Hayes Country Park, Buxton
Especially good views at the super dog friendly Lazy Trout (outdoor seating available)
Thank you Pauline for your wonderful hospitality

Despite alot of rain some days, we had a really lovely time in tis peaceful cottage
Pauline was delightful to deal with and the little touches of cake at the beginning and goodies at the end were unexpected and a pleasure to eat! The dogs really enjoyed the playbarn on a rainy day and the fields. It is rare to find a home so dog friendly
The area is packed with lovely villages and places to visit and we look forward to exploring more
Thank you for making our stay memorable and we will be back
Christine –
Peace and quiet in a lovely location and 2 great paddocks for the dogs to enjoy
Thank you for such a relaxing stay in your lovely house. The memory foam mattress was so comfortable and the quality bedding excellent. We had mixed weather but managed to enjoy a sunny day at the beautiful Rudyard Lake and another walk around the Hemsworth Reservoir. All places dog friendly with good facilities. So much to explore and enjoy still that another visit is on the books!
Mark Smith –
We were fortunate to get a cancellation and had a wonderful chilled week at end of August at Little Bent. Pauline was an amazing host, exceedingly kind and thoughtful. Our dog is very nervous and took a couple of days to settle but having the fields was great for her and us all to play in. Thank you Gail for finding these cottages and Pauline for allowing us to stay. Was the break we all needed.
Danielle, Chris, Tristen, Billie and dogs –
The cottage is amazing! Beautiful! The paddocks gave us happy dogs and therefore happy guests. The garden is relaxing and spacious and the kitchen had our hearts from Day 1
Everything was perfect! Just what we all needed. Beautiful host Pauline Thank you!
Maria –
The cottage is beautiful and the bed we used was so comfortable we slept really well. The area is stunning and there are so many lovely walks our dogs had a great time exploring. Pauline was really friendly and responded quickly to enquiries. Good pubs in the local area which were dog friendly, did good food at reasonable prices and the locals were friendly and helpful. Again another great pack holiday.

We have had the best of times. It was lovely, thank you for taking care of details in such a caring way.
It really gives the vibe of being simply in nature without lacking any of the comforts we may need
PS I am an Italian lady, not the easiest to please!! Grazie xx
Paul and Loraine –
We and our dogs have loved our stay here despite the cold, rain and wind. We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome goodies – The dogs have been spoiled with regular treats on offer
They have had the best time during this week.
We have visited somewhere every day to walk our 4 dogs
We have been more than comfortable with everything we need provided
Thanks again, we hope to return
Jane and Annette –
It’s a ‘paws up’ from us!
The location is fabulous: spectacular views; a quiet road with not much passing traffic; nearest neighbour just visible across the field; peace and quiet in spades; and having said all of the above, perfectly placed to take advantage of everything that the area has to offer (loads!).
The warmest of welcomes, with home made goodies for both humans and dogs.
Little Bent is well equipped, with everything we needed for the week (so many throws!) and other thoughtful touches.
Staffordshire itself is an amazing place to visit. Highlights for us were: Ilam Park (NT); the Tittesworth reservoir (wildlife, fairly level walking on good paths, amazing skies, wild flower meadows, plus the fabulous Lazy Trout pub and restaurant is just next door). Leek town itself is really sweet with a vintage market on the Saturday; Ashbourne and Buxton also worth a visit; don’t miss smashing Tissington, a beautifully preserved estate workers’ village.
But also, take a look at Stoke on Trent – fans of English pottery take note: you’re just 15 miles from the Emma Bridgewater factory*, where you can get a tour and see how it’s all made, or something more hands on if you are feeling creative (book ahead as I missed out), and be sure to go right to the back of the cafe where all the bargains are found. Then a little further on is Middleport, Stoke on Trent’s oldest pottery factory in the UK and home to the Great Pottery Throwdown TV series. Also, while you’re in the vicinity, try the Trentham shopping village which is a lovely and completely dog friendly outlet centre.
*As you would imagine, not dog friendly, you’ll have to negotiate with the rest of your party for some free time
Kirsty, Jake, Kenzie, Kylon and the pooches –
We have had the most lovely, relaxing and brilliant time here, we wish we lived here! The cottage is beautiful with the most perfect views, especially from the top of the paddocks. They are a godsend, I think the dogs had the best time out of the hoomans!
Fantastic communication from Pauline and Becky, with a lovely welcome of cakes, dog treats, fresh milk and eggs! All delicious
This is a beautiful home and you should be so proud! We will deffo be back. Thank you for letting us stay, one of the best breaks we have ever had
Norma and Stella with Annie and Rebe Darcy Jack and Winston –
Hoped for a cosy, dog friendly cottage but have to say Little Bent cottage exceeds all our expectations
Pauline you are a star! Received such a lovely warm welcome along with cake, eggs and hand made dog biscuits.
The cottage is so comfortable with everything we needed and my dogs loved the paddocks
Thanks so much for lending Rebe the trampoline. She has improved this week. (For anyone reading this my dachshund had a spinal stroke)
We came from Northumberland which is a beautiful place but it has been magical walking in the paddocks on sunny evenings, listening to the bird song and sheep while savouring the landscape
Natali Glanney –
Just to add to our smaller review that we left in the guest book. We had a lovely time at the cottage. Our reactive dog was the most relaxed we’ve ever seen her. It was particularly wet for our stay but we stuck to the first field and it was great. There were a few sheep in the neighbouring farmer’s field but our dog couldn’t see them from the first field as it is well protected by hedges. She’s a jumper and has a fondness for escaping but the fields were well enclosed and we didn’t worry about letting her off in the field area. We kept her on the lead for the garden area around the house. Pauline was a great host and puts in all the small details which is lovely. Cake, milk and eggs on arrival and came to greet us. As we were leaving she even popped by with goodbye cupcakes! The cottage was lovely and warm despite the weather and plenty of space for 3 adults and 2 children. We hope to return one day!
Evie, MIchael, Natali, Mark and Martine –
We’ve had the most amazing time in your cottage. Our dog loved it as well. We loved playing outside and playing the games you left for us
We all agree to give it a 10/10 and 5 stars!
Sue, Les, Nibby and Jasper –
Brilliant few days despite the weather. Lovely cottage, warm, cosy and some lovely personal touches.
It’s been a long time since we came to Staffordshire but will definitely be returning to Little Bent Cottage
Great walks around Rudyard Lake and the dogs enjoyed their swim
The Reform Inn was a good place to eat and dog friendly
A special thank you to Pauline for making us so welcome. The cake was delicious and the dogs enjoyed their homemade treats
Fantastic base to explore the surrounding area. Promise to return but perhaps in the warmer weather
Sue and Shaun –
We’ve had a lovely time. Both cottage and area are delightful and we would love to return. The goodies and cake on arrival were delicious. The dogs loved the interesting walks and the paddocks — which they never minded any boggy bits! Thank you for a lovely break – a great place to celebrate our birthdays! Beds also super comfy – think we will be investing in one of those mattresses!
Claire and the three shepherds –
I wanted to express our deepest gratitude for allowing us to stay at your wonderful home. From the moment we arrived, we were absolutely enchanted by the cosy atmosphere and the warmth that greeted us. Everything was simply lovely!
The attention to detail you’ve put into every corner of the home truly made our stay feel like a dream. We couldnt have asked for more. But what truly made our hearts sing was how accommodating you were towards our furry friends. The fact that our dogs were allowed to feel as comfortable and at home as we did, speaks volumes about the welcoming environment you have created.
We’ll return home with cherished memories and tails wagging with joy, it really provided us the perfect retreat and we cant thank you enough for that!
Rest assured Ill be singing your praises to my friends, family and follwers and Im already looking forward to the next opportunity to visit again
Once again, thank you and warmest regards
Shelly and Dave and Asha, Chester and Barkley –
Many thanks for a lovely stay at Little Bent Cottage and all your help with the wheel!
Very well equipped, absolutely loved the little extras, cakes and biscuits.
The poches loved the home made doggy biscuits and the paddocks to run around – they couldn’t get enough, and wanted to be in there all the time
So nice to stay somewhere so quiet and comfortable and that allows three dogs! Definitely got the ‘Paws Up’ from them!
We will definitely recommend you ands stay again!
Thanks
