Fancy a wonderful walk at Sheringham Park, Norfolk?
Brilliantly dog friendly and some fabulous scenery to take in
The address is: Upper Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8TL
Approx route length: 5.5 miles
If you have a National Trust membership, the car parking is free (but if not the parking charge is £6.50)
There are toilets at the start of walk and there is also a cafe on site with dog water bowls.
Starting your walk:
Have a look at the birds hide and see an array of wildbirds. During Spring time, Sheringham Park is renowned for their rhododendrons, azaleas and many other flowers.
Start your walk through the main strip of the park – remember that dogs must be kept on leads,
From here, take a left and follow the red arrows. As you head onto the woodland path, you can let your dogs off lead here (if you are happy with their recall).
Walk through the woods where you will find benches to sit and watch the world go by. There are some side tracks off the main one, but stick to the red arrow route. There is an old sawmill on route. You will reach a bench with a lovely wildlife pond. (In Spring there are lots of toads).
Carry on round to the the left on this path and stay on this route.
Carry on through the park gate and at the end of the path, where you will see a sign for Weybourne Heath. Take a right here and at the next post and bench, head left.
Carry on this path. At the end, I would recommend that you take a right turn up to the top of the hill to admire the breath-taking view. Turn around and head back onto the path you were on and stay on this until you reach a gate where you can head left and down to Weybourne Train Station. If you like, you can catch a steam train into Kelling or Sheringham from here (and you can also buy refreshments).
If you don’t want to get the train, head back and carry on the track you were on (follow the red markers). Again there are some amazing views across to the coastal path.
Keep going until you come to the gate where you can take the steps up the gazebo. This is a viewing tower over the park, the coast and the rest of Sheringham. This is an absolute must and a beautiful viewing area.
Head back the the track you were on through the gate and past the mansion, up to the coliseum through the main park area
Walk across the grassland through the gate and back into the park area where you need to keep dogs on lead.
There are many benches to sit and take in the views or have a picnic. The route is around 5.5 miles long but you can walk longer if you choose to head onto the coastal path into Sheringham Park
This is a beautiful walk anytime of year and great for wildlife photographers: A very dog friendly walk and a firm favourite!
