Reactive Dog Guide
Mill Barn Cottage is a 2-Star Reactive Friendly property. The Setting: As the largest cottage on the site, Mill Barn is located near the parking area. You may see and hear other visiting dogs as they arrive or head out to explore. Visual Privacy: The garden and decking area are enclosed to just over 4ft. While offering a private space, dogs may see activity on the shared farm tracks. Sound Insulation: Thick stone walls provide excellent insulation, though the large open-plan living area upstairs means sounds can travel between the social spaces. 🐾

Mill Barn offers a practical layout for multi-generational groups, with all four bedrooms and one full bathroom located on the ground floor. However, as this is an upside-down cottage, the main lounge, kitchen, and dining areas are located on the first floor and are accessed via a flight of internal stairs. This may be an important consideration for guests with limited mobility or for older dogs who find stairs a challenge.

🛋️ Cottage Details (The Grand Tour!)
🚪 When You Arrive Park your car in your private space and enter through the ground floor. This "upside-down" home welcomes you into a hallway that leads to all the sleeping quarters, keeping the bedrooms quiet and cool.
🛌 The Bedrooms (Ground Floor) All four characterful bedrooms are located on the ground floor. You’ll find two doubles, one twin, and one full-size bunk room. All beds are made up with luxury Tielle linens, and we provide fluffy towels, bathrobes, and slippers. There is a convenient ground-floor bathroom here as well.
🛋️ Living & Relaxing (First Floor) Head up the stairs to the spectacular open-plan living and dining area. This massive space features vaulted ceilings, original beams, and the restored water wheel. You can sink into the sofas in front of the 40" LCD TV (with 3D Blu-ray/DVD player and Bluetooth sound system) and the large wood-burning stove. 🔥
🍳 The Kitchen & Dining (First Floor) The first-floor kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped for group catering, featuring a cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge-freezer. Crucially for the Pack, it includes a washing machine and tumble dryer—perfect for drying off those dog towels! 🧼 There is a second bathroom located on this floor for easy access from the living area.
🌳 The Garden, Balcony & Hot Tub Step out from the cottage to your triple outdoor space. You have a private balcony at the front, a large decked area (home to the 6-person hot tub), and a private grassed garden to the rear for the dogs to sniff. The area is enclosed to just over 4ft. It’s the perfect spot to watch the fells while the dogs relax on the grass. 🌅🛁
🦴 What We Provide for the Pack
🧼 Practicality: Access to a tumble dryer and an outside tap for rinsing paws.
🗺️ Farm Walks: On-lead access to the front sheep field (April–Nov) and the side track for Fell access. Note: No access to back fields or woods. 🐑

🍰 The Tottergill Welcome: Fresh flowers, Cumbrian coffee, and homemade brownies, granola, and Toffee Shop fudge.

Is the garden really private? 🛡️ Yes! While Mill Barn is part of a 10-cottage site, the grassed garden, balcony, and large decked area are for your exclusive use.
What is the "Upside-Down" layout? It means all four bedrooms and one bathroom are on the ground floor. You head upstairs to reach the lounge, kitchen, and dining area. 🪜
How high is the garden boundary? It is a mix of stone walling and fencing secure to just over 4 feet high.
Is the hot tub private? Yes, it is a high-spec 6-person hot tub for the exclusive use of Mill Barn guests.
Is there a BBQ? Yes, a charcoal-fired BBQ is provided (please bring your own charcoal). 🍔
Will I see other dogs? Yes possibly, Mill Barn is located near the central parking area of the farm, so you may see other guests and their dogs as they head out for walks.
🧭 Locally & Useful Information
The Duke of Cumberland (1 mile): A fantastic, dog-friendly pub in Castle Carrock village. It’s a steady 20-minute walk down the hill (just remember it’s uphill on the way back!). 🍻
Talkin Tarn Country Park: A short 5-minute drive away. It features a lovely 1.3-mile circular walk around the lake—perfect for dogs who love a flatter stroll.
Gelt Woods: Beautiful ancient woodland and riverside walks are right on your doorstep. Follow the track from the bottom of the farm drive. 🌳🌊
Brampton (2 miles): The nearest market town for local shops, butchers, and a Coop for all your supplies.
