Heath Cottage is a beautiful, (nay gorgeous!) late Victorian, country cottage nestled sweetly in the charming Broads village of Hickling. It is joining us for the late summer season, 2017.

It was built circa 1900 and it is a fine example of a truly lovely Norfolk cottage, complete with original Norfolk winder staircase.

Originally built by Mr W.Lambert, for his small family, with only a copper and outside cold tap – which he would wash with daily!  He lived there his whole life, and neighbours have said that they can still picture him sitting by the open fire in the main sitting room, which remains much the same to this day.

It has been extended tastefully over a number of years into the light, spacious and beautiful cottage that it is today.

This full of character cottage is situated at the edge of this charming village. It has two very dog friendly pubs and has lots of super walks from the door (including direct access to Weavers Way!) The delightful little village of Sea Palling (with its Blue Flag beach) is just a short 5 minutes by car and the rather splendid Horsey beach (famous for its seals) is a short 12 minutes drive away!

Heath Cottage is a beautiful dog friendly cottage. It has hard floors throughout and a very well dog–proofed garden for safe play. The garden is south west facing- meaning that it is very sunny all day!

There are some wonderful circular and coastal walks to enjoy with your dogs, (http://maps.norfolk.gov.uk/trails/) and the area is fantastic for getting out and about on your bike.

If you would like to see what’s on locally in the village, click here to go to the Hickling village website.

If you fancy a bit of town shopping the seaside towns of Cromer and Sheringham are a short drive away, and more locally, some of the lovely little villages we have nearby such as Happisburgh, Sea Palling, Horsey, East Ruston (famous for its Vicarage Gardens!) or head up to Mundesley and catch a bit of crazy golf!

Lots of dog friendly places to explore and quite a few National Trust bases to visit (my favourite is Felbrigg…..Lots of super walks, and Blicking Hall!) With the historic city of Norwich just 20 miles away, there is a lot to do from this marvellous base in Hickling.

I can’t think of anywhere more welcoming, relaxing and delightful for a wonderful break away with your dogs.

Location and Facilities

When You Arrive:

Park your car in the driveway. (There is room for three cars.)

The access door to the cottage is to the right hand side of the cottage, through the small picket gate..

Enter the cottage to the vestibule. This is the perfect room to pop your outdoor clothes and shoes and also contains a freezer, microwave and storage and gives you wonderful views across the fields towards the local stables.

The field you can see from the vestibule is owned by Heath Cottage owners.  Their field is used (free of charge) by the local Hickling animal charity FAITH and they have some very happy horses that make great use of the field.

The door on the other side of the vestibule gives access to the back garden via a stable door (which is ultra secure for your dogs).

Enter into the:

Kitchen

This is a beautifully fitted kitchen, with every kitchen appliance and tool you could think of, or need, from the fabulous NutriBullet to the bean-to-coffee maker…Truly something for everyone!

Our lovely owners have taken great care to ensure that your holiday is carried out in style and comfort. For the chefs among us, there is no excuse not to cook up a storm with the wonderful copper based hanging pans in easy reach!

There are lovely views from double aspect windows, and you can enjoy this at the table for two.

From here go into the:

Utility Area

Where you will find a washer dryer and ironing equipment.

Then through to the

Bathroom

Relax in comfort in this nautical themed bathroom with white sink, toilet and bath with over-the-bath shower.

Come back through the kitchen and take the first door on your right to:

Downstairs Bedroom

This room is perfect for guests who don’t wish to stay in an upstairs bedroom (and is particularly useful for the bathroom downstairs). It has a very comfortable full sized single day bed (with a very comfortable mattress). With side lamp, unit and wall hooks and television. This room also has patio doors which open out into the secure back garden and has a lovely area with seating outside – just perfect for that morning coffee and soaking up the rays!

From this room turn right into the:

Dining Room

With lovely views to the side garden, a lovely dining table able to seat 5, cosy multifuel stove and beautiful dresser with ornamental plates and ornaments.

Go straight ahead to the

Living Room

A fabulous room to relax in with seating for 5, original internal doors (which are thoughout the cottage), feature ornamental open fire and beautiful lamps.

A 40 inch screen Smart TV TV, Bluray DVD and Sky  TV

Conservatory

This stunning room has gorgeous views of the enclosed rear garden and has very comfy corner suite with a table and feature lighting.

Head back through to the dining room:

Then up the ‘Norfolk’ stairs.   These stairs ‘wind’ round, so if your feet are a little larger, be careful on the slimmer steps.  Do have a little caution as Norfolk stairs can be steep:

Bedroom 1

Light and airy room with comfortable double bed, side table, lamp, drawers and wardrobe.  (Hairdryer also supplied.)

Bedroom 2

Another light and airy room (with double aspect) with twin beds, side units, lamps, wardrobe and dresser. It has a beautiful ornamental original feature fireplace.  (Hairdryer also supplied.)

The cottage has been thoughtfully restored and decorated in keeping with the style of the cottage.

Garden:

The rear garden can be accessed via the vestibule stable door, conservatory door or the downstairs bedroom.

It has been dog proofed to a very high degree with all surrounding border bushes post and wired and picket fence to side and rear of the garden. The garden is laid mainly to grass with camelia bushes, apple and pear trees and many lovely features.

A restored dovecot can also be found in the garden

Testimonials

We have had a wonderful time here at Heath Cottage. What a lovely cottage it is; lovely and cosy, and had all the amenities we wanted. Very close to the beach and other sites, it was the perfect base. Very peaceful and tranquil. We would love to come here again in the future. The stairs took a couple of days to navigate, but I got there in the end!!

We have had a fantastic time, this is a wonderful place to being the dogs. We appreciated all the thoughts that have gone into making the place canine friendly. As for the humans we have had plenty of time to relax. The fishmonger in Happisburgh is highly recommended!!

Such a lovely and relaxing time away. The cottage us fab and so homely. Walked to see the seals most nights and drove into Yarmouth and Hemsby as well! The Nelsons Head was very handy and the food was superb. Started making my way down the cider list but didn’t complete it in the 5 days so will definitely return!

What a wonderful cottage Heath Cottage is.  The dogs loved the large secure garden to run around in but also find the shade whilst us humans enjoyed the sunshine.  The conservatory was lovely to sit in for breakfast/evening listening to the birds singing away.  Our last night at the table having tea we even saw a deer which had wandered into the side front garden.  We had trips out to Sea Palling beach, Happisburgh beach, Horsey beach.  Fairhaven Gardens and a walk up the road before having lunch at the very dog friendly Pleasureboat Inn.  (Remember to take change for parking at the beach).  Our favourite was Horsey beach and we even got to see a few seals, one of which followed us most of the way back!  The welcome pack on arrival was lovely and a welcome surprise (we ordered more fudge from the fudge lady), the dogs loved their homemade treats.  Everyone settled in the evening and slept well.   Thank you for a lovely week away and we look forward to booking again.

Heath Cottage is definitely one of the best holiday cottages we have ever had the pleasure of staying in.  The facilities for dogs and humans are so well thought through.  Our dogs and toddler have really enjoyed the garden and excursions to Sea Palling, a boat trip, Horsey (where we saw 80+ seals,) Winterton, Blickling Hall and Fairhaven.  We enjoyed walks to the local pub and a bike ride around the village.  Beautiful area, beautiful cottage and very happy visitors – Thank you!

Heath Cottage is beautiful.  Every last detail has been thought of.  The welcome basket was so thoughtful and the things for the dogs are brilliant.  We’ve had an amazing week here and even the weather has been kind to us.  Highly recommend The Pleasure Boat at the end of the road, super dog friendly too. A trip to Horsey beach is a must do – so many seals. Thank you.
