The ShielingsSea Palling, Norfolk
The Shielings in Sea Palling is a gorgeous, beautifully maintained Victorian House stacked full of charm and character. I LOVE the name of this house as it has smashing Scottish roots 😉 It sleeps up to 10 people, has a very, very secure garden and a fabulous luxury hot tub and bar!
The Shielings has something for everyone – secure garden, hot tub, outside bar and there are also hidden magical rooms… more explained further on!
The property has hard flooring throughout, fabulous for visiting pooches. It is ideal for a family holiday right throughout the year and is a perfect place to explore Norfolk’s beaches, Broads and countryside. Because The Shielings is on the outskirts of the village, it is quiet and peaceful and has the most amazing views from all front windows across to the dunes. There is a bridle path on the opposite side of the road, and it takes just 8 minutes to walk to the beach from there.
It is also just a short 10-minute walk away from the hub of a beautiful seaside village, the main beach entry, with access to cafes, fish and chip shop, a pub, an amusement arcade,a local shop which sells practically everything(!) and a Post Office. It is an ideal base to take the opportunity to explore all along our Norfolk coast! Turn right on entry to the beach to walk along to Waxham and Horsey…. Great for seal-spotting!
Or get out and about in the car and visit Winterton-on-Sea, Happisburgh and further up the coast to Mundesley, Cromer, Sheringham, Blakeney, Holkham and Wells!
If you want to pop along to a quieter beach in the busier months, head to Waxham, Cart Gap and Happisburgh. Even out with pupping season, you will still spot a seal or two (and they sometimes have great fun following your coastal walk whilst they keep up in the water)
It is a short drive to Mundesley and Cromer (via the gorgeous coastal route) or Horsey, then Winterton on Sea the opposite way.
Stalham town (3 miles away) has some lovely local shops, supermarket (Tesco) and we have lovely local individual shops dotted around our lovely coastal villages (The Fair Maiden fish shop at Happisburgh, Causeway Farm Butchers at Ingham, Ingham Farm Shop, Meales at Wayford Bridge and many more).

When you arrive
This house is truly magical….and I’ll get to that point in a wee while. Keep reading 😉
Park your car in the private driveway. There is enough parking for up to 3 cars (two in front of the gate and one behind). The garden is completely secure once the gates are closed. If you have more than 3 cars there is off road parking across the road in front of The Shielings.
Go through the front door into the
The whole of the downstairs is solid flooring, turning left takes you into the large living room and right into the dining room and kitchen.
Turn right into the
Dining Room and Kitchen
This gorgeous room has been opened right up to make the best use of light and space. The views from the dining room window are stunning and look across towards the dunes. There is a dining table which opens up to seat up to 10 people, shelving, a fabulous feature fireplace (not in use) and some of the most fabulous fixed storage I have seen in a long time 🙂
The kitchen is fully fitted with lovely modern units. There is a dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer, double oven, hob, large fridge freezer, small breakfast bar, a stunning butchers table and plenty of storage throughout. The back door leads to the secure and gorgeous garden (and a very special doorway for small people ;))
Come back into the light and airy hallway and go straight ahead to the
This room spans the length of the house and so is very spacious. It has plenty of seating for 10 people with sofas armchairs, bean bags and the sofas and armchair all recline for comfort too. It has a 49” Smart TV with Freeview, DVD player, side unit for books and DVDs and lovely coffee table and wall lights. It has views to the front of the house, with French doors into the back garden. Again, the views over to the dunes are stunning. There is a beautiful wood burner to get warm and cosy during the winter months.
There is one step to an upper part of the living room where the very comfy sofa bed rests. The perfect place for visitors who prefer ground floor living.

This room is fitted with a plain modern suite, with toilet, sink and space for outdoor gear and shoes. Mirror above the sink plus shoe storage.
Come back into the hallway and walk up the lovely stairs (mind your head)
Bedroom 1 Master
This room has stunning, uninterrupted views towards the dunes. There is a comfortable double bed, side units, lamps and plenty of drawer space. Wall mounted 32” TV with Freeview. You will find convenient USB ports in both the bedside lamps and wall sockets.
En-suite / Shower Room 1
There is a stunning en-suite shower room off Bedroom 1 with a large walk in shower and drench head shower. It has a particularly lovely feature sink unit (you will love this!) There is also a door leading from this room to the hallway should others wish to use this room, almost Jack and Jill.
Come back through Bedroom 1 and out into the hallway and next left into
This room has views over the garden and is furnished with a king size zip and link bed (so can be made into twin beds if you like), side units, bedside lamps and storage. Wall mounted 32” TV with Freeview. USB ports in the wall sockets and the bedside lamps.

This beautiful bathroom has a lovely modern white suite with electric shower over a P-shaped bath.
Note: All toilet seats are soft close and are all fitted with kiddie seats too!
This room has views over the garden and is furnished with double size (zip and link bed again so it can be a twin room if needed) and side units, bedside lamps, storage and USB ports in the wall sockets and bedside lamps.
There is a magical door in Bedroom 3….It is only for special people and I don’t want to spoil what will be an amazing (and dare I say it!!) awesome experience for little souls (and big souls, if you are anything like me!) Think Boggles, Twiggles, Narnia and wardrobes……and you might just get an idea, but this place has its very own Characters!
The magic extends over 2 rooms and has some very special interactive features!
Back outside Bedroom 3, turn left into
This room has amazing views over the dunes. There is a feature fireplace (decorative only) and fixed storage in a beautifully restored original wall cupboard. There is a wonderfully comfortable double bed, mirror and side units and bedside lamps. Convenient USB ports in both the lamp bases and wall sockets.
Come back into the hallway and come back downstairs and either pop through the French doors from the living room, or through the kitchen and into:
This lovely garden is fenced to a height of between 6 and 7 feet and is very secure once the garden gates are shut. The garden is laid mainly to lawn with a lovely patio (including furniture) outside the living area where you can have a barbeque.
The pièce de resistance is a fabulous luxury hot tub which can seat up to 5 people. It has a captain’s seat, Moto massage roller jets, interchangeable jet streams, water feature and is just fabulous. Connect your device to the bar speaker and enjoy!
Not only do you have a hot tub, but you also have your own personal bar!! The only argument you’ll have is who must man the bar and serve those in the hot tub having a fab time!!

Reactive Friendly Award Detail
3 Star ⭐⭐⭐
The Shielings is a 3 star Reactive Friendly Pack Holidays cottage. Here are the reasons why, but also more importantly, what aspects of the cottage may not be suitable for your reactive. The Shielings is situated on Waxham Road, on the outskirts of Sea Palling village. It does coastal ‘through traffic’ but is in a 30mph zone and the garden of The Shielings is to the rear of the property (none at the front).
The garden is grassed, very secure with 6-7 feet fencing and whilst the fences are shared with adjoining properties, the fencing is high enough to not be overlooked to any degree by the neighbouring properties. Once dogs are in the garden, it is very secure (ensuring the large gates are shut and secured too).
The garden is accessed directly from the kitchen door and dogs can be seen/supervised effectively from the kitchen and living room (and upstairs rear bedrooms).
There is a quiet bridle path across the road from The Shielings leading to the dunes and the beach, This is a much less travelled route to the beach than accessing it via Beach Road in the village.
Passers by may be seen but they are fewer during non peak times (as parking in Sea Palling is centrally) with peak times, visitors sometimes park on the opposite sides of the road (where there are no parking restrictions). However, this is the opposite side of the road to The Shielings, and not right in front of it.
Parking is on the driveway (no closed fencing) so do ensure dogs are on leads before exiting cars and entering the front of the house.

The Shielings, Waxham Road, Sea Palling, NR12 0UX
From the A149 Stalham bypass take the turning signposted Happisburgh/Walcott/Bacton at the western end of the town (Stepping Stone Lane B1159). At the end of the lane, turn right at the junction and stay on the road into Stalham for approximately 0.5 mile until you reach the first junction in the town with the High School on your left hand side. Turn left at this junction and follow the road through Stalham, to Ingham.
Follow the road through Ingham (past the now being revamped Ingham Swan, and follow the road to the first junction which is signposted Sea Palling. Turn right at this junction towards Sea Palling, passing Causway Farm butcher and the farm shop.
Just as you enter the village, the road bends to the left. Follow the road (don’t turn off down Beach Road) and keep going through the village past the village hall on your right. The Shielings is the first white house on your right hand side as you come out of the village (and before the gas shop).
