The Auld Shop Cottage, Portsoy

Scotland

The Auld Shop Cottage is an utterly charming cottage in my absolute favourite seaside town of Portsoy, in Aberdeenshire).

This beautiful cottage was actually a shop dating back over 250 years, so it is definitely full of character and history. Just imagine all those stories going back over that length of time. It has a lovely sea view from the cottage too!

It is a very short walk (a minute or so) to the stunning harbour (which just happens to date back to the 16th century.)

This harbour is also home to the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival (which takes place in June). The festival places a special emphasis on boat building, restoration and sailing as well as associated traditional crafts including knotting, weaving and embroidery and on music and art.

But it’s not just about the harbour. The cottage is ideally situated to let you explore this beautiful uphill town centre with fascinating windy streets and the well-known local jewellery made from ‘Portsoy marble’ (which was once shipped to Versailles).

Walk straight down the road opposite the cottage for 50 metres, and you will come to the gorgeous wee beach, so quiet, peaceful and absolutely stunning.

And of course, one of the loveliest things about a wee Scottish village, is the warm welcome you will receive wherever you go. Us Scots are well known for our wonderful hospitality and you will find that in bucketfuls in this wonderful haven.
