New to the holiday rental market this year (June!!), Fenside is a former farm labourer’s cottage, that was rescued from a completely derelict state and lovingly restored and modernised four years ago. It can accommodate five guests in three bedrooms.

Located on the outskirts of the seaside village of Sea Palling, Fenside has the very best of two worlds; stunning rural views over open farm land, and yet just a short walk to a sandy, Blue Flag beach (eight minutes on foot, or twelve if your dog insists on inspecting every gate post on the way!).

Sea Palling is a friendly village, with a dog friendly café (open 364 days a year), dog friendly pub, a fish and chip restaurant, an amusement arcade, a local shop (which sells practically everything) and a Post Office. Drive three minutes along the road toward Ingham and you will find a family butcher, with wonderful locally-sourced meats, eggs, milk, and pressed juices (ask for bones for your raw-fed dogs), as well as a farm shop for fruit, veg, frozen foods, logs, plants, sweeties, and lots and lots of souvenirs.

Fenside is an ideal base for exploring all along our Norfolk coast! Turn right on entry to the beach to walk along to Waxham and Horsey…..Great for seal-spotting! Turn left (October to April!) * and walk all the way to Happisburgh lighthouse, stopping at the brilliant Small Sticks café at Cart Gap to recharge before the return walk. Or get out and about in the car and visit Winterton-on-Sea, or further up the coast to Mundesley, Cromer and Sheringham.

*  Dogs must turn right between May and September, which is just as great as turning left, as you can walk to Waxham, Horsey or even to Winterton on Sea if you are feeling energetic.  Stop off at the Nelsons Head in Horsey for liquid or food refreshments – and very dog friendly they are too!

Cottage Details

Entry to Fenside

On arrival, drive through the gate at the end of the lane and park your car parallel to the fence to the right hand side of the cottage. There is plenty room for two cars.
Go through the garden gate, and past the patio doors, to the front door.

You enter into the small hallway with the stairs directly ahead. Turn right into the:

Kitchen:

The large, eat-in kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cupboard space. The owners are keen cooks and have provided a selection of appliances including a slow cooker, food mixer, sandwich toaster and waffle maker. There is a large fridge freezer, which is perfect for anyone with raw-fed dogs or to keep plenty of ice cream in the summer. There is a dishwasher.

Through the kitchen, and out into the lobby where the washing machine and back door is found. Turn right into:

Downstairs Shower room:

The shower room has just recently been refitted (May 2018) and provides a low-step, walk-in shower with the choice of conventional or gentle rain shower. Water pressure at Fenside is really good, and a huge hot water tank provides a great shower experience. The wc and hand basin are sleek and modern and there is a large mirror with lights.

Return though the kitchen and walk across to the:

Living Room:

This gorgeous room has its own feature painting right outside the doors! Every window at Fenside enjoys the stunning views, but the very best experience is from the lounge, especially in the summer when you can open the large patio doors. Sit quietly with a cup of coffee and watch for wildlife and birds (the house is in the path of migrating geese in the winter) or simply be overawed by our breathtaking Norfolk skies. On a clear night you will get an uninterrupted view of the stars.

There is plenty of seating, and throws are provided for snuggling up with your dogs. The beautiful feature fireplace has a woodburner, which is perfect for a cosy winter night in with your choice of film via the Netflix subscription. Use the high-speed fibre Broadband connection to research the best places to visit during your stay, as well as keep up with the folks back home.

The owners have chosen a wood effect, vinyl tile flooring, with a textured grain, to minimise the possibility of slippy paws (and feet!). They have provided a selection of games, cards and books.

Come back out of the living room and turn left to go upstairs.

Single Bedroom:

The first bedroom is a single with a very comfortable, medium support mattress with a thick mattress topper. There is a bedside drawer unit with a reading lamp, and an open wardrobe rail with shelf storage and plenty of hanging space.

Twin Bedroom (or as the owners like to call it, The Awkward Room):

The second bedroom is light and bright, and has twin beds, with the chimney breast between. There is room for bedside drawer units, but not a wardrobe, and so the owners have fitted space-saving shelving with hanging hooks. The beds are high, with plenty of space underneath to store cases and holdalls (or to push the dog beds away during the daytime). The beds are fitted with hotel quality mattresses, with thick mattress toppers, providing both support and comfort.

Exit the twin bedroom and walk back along the landing to the:

Upstairs Bathroom

With a while suite comprising bath and traditional style wc and hand basin. Neutral tiling, with metallic mosaic edging, and a large mirror with lights.

Double Bedroom

The Double bedroom is painted in a soothing cream, with tones of red and grey. It has a comfortable double bed with a memory foam mattress and special stay-cool topper. Bedside tables, plus a chest of drawers and rails with plenty of hangers.

Outside:

The medium-sized garden is laid mainly to grass with side borders and some shrubs. There is a picket fence enclosing the property, which is currently at a height of 3 to 3.5 feet. This gives uninterrupted views across the fields. Being at the very end of the lane, there is no passing traffic, however, for anyone with a reactive dog, please be aware that our lovely farmer neighbour’s driveway goes around the perimeter of the garden, and so there is the occasional person or car coming or going.

Please note

Fenside is strictly a non-smoking property, please, as one of the owners is asthmatic

There is no hard limit on the number of dogs, however, please consider the size of your pack/breed in relation to the house and garden space.  Gail will be happy to advise.
Dogs are welcome to snuggle on the sofas with you using the throws provided, and are allowed upstairs, but not on human beds.

Direction

From the A149 Stalham bypass take the turning signposted Happisburgh/Walcott/Bacton at the western end of the town (Stepping Stone Lane B1159). At the end of the lane, turn right at the junction and stay on the road into Stalham for approximately 0.5 mile until you reach the first junction in the town with the High School on your left hand side.  Turn left at this junction and follow the road through Stalham, to Ingham.

Follow the road through Ingham (past the now being revamped Ingham Swan, and follow the road to the first junction which is signposted Sea Palling.  Turn right at this junction towards Sea Palling, passing Causway Farm butcher and the farm shop.

Just as you enter the village, the road bends to the left and Church Road is on the RIGHT. Drive down Church Road, and after approx. 200 metres, the road splits; take the right hand fork and you will see Fenside’s gate immediately in front of you after approx. 100 metres.

You approach the house from behind, which is on your left once you are through the gate.
